Trump request to release malaria drug hydroxychloroquine

US President Donald Trump has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to supply hydroxychloroquine drug orders. India banned the export of this medicine last month. Trump said he spoke to Prime Minister Modi on Saturday morning and urged him to supply hydroxychloroquine orders to the US.

The US President said in his regular press conference at the White House, ‘I spoke to Prime Minister Modi this morning. They make large amounts of hydroxychloroquine. India is seriously considering it.

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) banned the export of this drug on 25 March. However, the DGFT had said that some of its exports may be allowed on a human-by-case basis.

The United States has emerged as the most affected country, with more than three million confirmed cases of corona virus infection and more than 8,000 deaths. No treatment has been found so far for this virus.

Trump administration is emphasizing the use of hydroxychloroquine to treat corona virus, based on some preliminary results. This medicine has been used in the treatment of malaria for decades. With immediate approval from the US Food and Drug Administration last Saturday, approximately 1,500 Corona patients are being treated in New York using a malaria drug in conjunction with some other drug.
